Phowa with Lama Ole Nydahl – January News

Dear friends,

Lama Ole Nydahl will be visiting Hong Kong in February to share the profound teaching of Phowa, or Conscious Dying, for the first time in Hong Kong. Information about the course can be found below and further information can be found on our website.

Phowa – Conscious Dying

The practice of Phowa or conscious dying is one of the most profound teachings of Diamond Way Buddhism. During this practice one learns to transfer one’s consciousness at the moment of death into a state of highest bliss.

We have the extraordinary opportunity to complete this powerful practice in a five day retreat with Lama Ole Nydahl, a great Phowa Master who has taught this method to more than 70,000 people around the world. This course is suitable for beginners (after having completed a preparatory meditation practice) and Lama Ole starts the retreat with an introduction to Buddhism. This course also enables us to help others at the time of their death.

It is important to learn a short meditation on the Buddha of Limitless Light before the Phowa course. In connection with this, one does as many repetitions of the mantra OM AMI DEWA HRIH as possible. This meditation is taught in all Diamond Way Buddhist centers. We recommend that you join one of our meditation sessions in Hong Kong, where someone will be happy to explain the meditation, give an introduction to Diamond Way Buddhism, and answer any questions you may have. We have organised additional weekly meditation sessions on Saturdays to explain and practice this meditation before the course, further info about these sessions can be found here.

About Lama Ole Nydahl

Lama Ole Nydahl and his wife Hannah met the head of the Karma Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, the 16th Karmapa, in 1969 during their honeymoon in the Himalayas and became his first western students. After years of studying Buddhist teachings and practicing meditation, the 16th Karmapa gave them the task of making Diamond Way teachings accessible to the modern world. Lama Ole has founded more than 600 Diamond Way centres around the world since 1972. He shows us that spontaneous freshness and resting in the nature of ones own mind belong together. He is the author of several books on Buddhism.
