Phowa Preparation Sessions

Before the upcoming Phowa course with Lama Ole Nydahl in February, we are organising preparation sessions for those who are joining the course for the first time. The meditation we do together is the Buddha of Limitless Light meditation. Lama Ole requests that people do as many repetitions of the mantra OM AMI DEWA HRIH as possible, and 100,000 is best. There is still plenty of time to prepare fully before the course at the end of February!

For those who are new to Buddhism or meditation, explanations will be given before the meditation session starts. Friends who have already done the course are also welcome to join us.

They are taking place every Saturday evening at our sister centre, the New Horizon Buddhist Centre in Kennedy Town. All are welcome to join.

More information on the Phowa course can be found here: http://www.buddhism.hk/phowa/

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Meditation in Daily Life Talk

We are pleased to announce our first public talks of the Autumn this October. We’re very lucky that Rosi Fischer, a Buddhist teacher from Germany, will lead a 2-day course on “Meditation in Daily Life” during the evenings of Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st October.

About the course

The Buddha taught many methods for skillfully working with mind. Among these, meditation techniques are very important and have several aims: they free us from disturbing emotions; help us to realise the dreamlike nature of our experience (while strengthening our compassionate ability to help others to do the same); and allow us to recognise the timeless and perfect potential of mind.

This short series of talks will give an overview of the types of Buddhist meditation, focussing in particular on how these methods can be used in our daily lives, and will include guided Diamond Way Buddhist meditations. There will also be an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. You don’t have to come to all the sessions to attend. All are welcome!

About the speaker

Rosi Fischer is a very experienced international Buddhist teacher from the West and it is great pleasure to have her visit us in Hong Kong after a month-long teaching tour of Australia and New Zealand.

Then on Saturday, he will give a series of talks and guided meditations at our centre on beautiful Lantau Island. We hope to see you there! Meditation nights in May

Weekly Meditation in May moved to Thursdays

As we mentioned last month, our regular meditation evenings have been going well at the new location on Queen’s Road Central. Unfortunately, the studio mixed up some dates regarding our booking and we are having to change to meet on Thursday evenings during the month of May. From June onwards, we will be back to meeting on our regular Wednesday evening slot, and we’ll send another update at the time to remind everyone. Apologies for all the confusion and inconvenience caused.

So, starting next week, Thursday 7 May, our regular weekly meditations will take place on Thursdays for May only at 8.15pm at Studio on Queens. **

12 hour meditation marathon!

Please come and join us at our centre on Lantau Island for a 12 hour meditation marathon! The idea behind the day is for a meditation to be continuously practised by at least one person for a period of 12 consecutive hours. We will start at 10am and finish and 10pm – it would be great if you could come and help us realise this feat!

The address is Ming Garden, 1 San Shek Wan, Lantau and our contact number is 2537 755. The easiest way to get here is to either take the ferry to Mui Wo from Central pier 6, or take the MTR to Tung Chung. From Mui Wo take either bus no 1, 3M or 4 to San Shek Wan.
