We’ve moved again!

As you know, we’ve recently been meditating in a temporary venue for the last couple of months and have found a new venue. We’re still in Central, now on Queen’s Road Central.

With immediate effect, our regular weekly meditations will take place at:

Studio on Queens *
2F, 55 Queen’s Road Central
(Entrance on Li Yuen St. West)
Central

Our first meditation in the new venue will be at 8.15pm (please note the new start time 15 minutes later!) on Wednesday 18th March 2009.

Look forward to seeing you there!

* The studio is conveniently located opposite H&M on Queen’s Road Central and reachable by most forms of public transportation (MTR Central Station; numerous buses on Des Voeux Road Central; tram; taxi stand right in front of the studio).  There is a 24-hour public car park around the corner in Man Yee Building; entrance on Pottinger Street. Meditation practice day in March

We will have our second meditation practice day this coming Saturday 21st March at our place on Lantau Island. Whether you are completely new to Buddhism or already practising the Ngondro (four foundational practices), you are very welcome to join us. There will be two meditation sessions, one starting at 11am and the second at 3pm – you don’t need to attend both, but everyone is welcome to do so. To round things off, we’ll have a BBQ in the garden at the end of the day. If you need instructions on starting a particular meditation practice, we’ll also have time for explanations. Just let us know if you’d like to attend. The address is Ming Gardens, 1 San Shek Wan, South Lantau – if you need directions to get here, please get in touch.

Meditation practice day

We will have a meditation practice day on Saturday 28th February at our new place on Lantau Island. Whether you are completely new to Buddhism or already practising the Ngondro (four foundational practices), you are very welcome to join us.

There will be two meditation sessions, one starting at 10am and the second at 2pm – you don’t need to attend both, but everyone is welcome to do so. To round things off, we’ll have a BBQ in the garden at the end of the day, starting around 5pm.

If you need instructions on starting a particular meditation practice, we’ll also have time for explanations. Just let us know if you’d like to attend.

The address is Ming Garden, 1 San Shek Wan, Lantau – the easiest way to get here is to either take the ferry to Mui Wo from Central pier 6, or take the MTR to Tung Chung. From Mui Wo take either bus no 1, 3M or 4 to San Shek Wan. From Tung Chung, take the bus 3M to San Shek Wan. Ask the driver to let you know when you arrive here if you’re unsure. Otherwise, you can take a blue Lantau taxi from either Mui Wo (approx HK$40) or Tung Chung (approx HK$80).

We’ve moved!

We’ve recently moved and so our weekly meditation evenings will take place in a different venue temporarily while we seek a permanent location in the Central area.

With immediate effect, our regular weekly meditations will take place at:

20F (Suites 5-6, c/o Bondway)
Kinwick Centre
32 Hollywood Road
(the Kinwick Centre is right next to the escalator, upstairs in the building where Pure Fitness is)

Our first meditation in the new venue will be at 8pm on Wednesday 14th January 2009.

Look forward to seeing you there!

Lama Ole Nydahl: Meditation – The Art of the Moment

In times of financial uncertainty, it’s easy to feel gloomy as we cut back on luxuries we’ve become used to. But should we feel negative? Buddhists understand that lasting happiness comes from within. Worrying about the past and the future causes us problems; however, this preoccupation obscures opportunities for happiness now!

Lama Ole Nydahl explains how meditation provides insight into The Art of the Moment. Here we rely on and work with what the credit crunch can’t take away, the richness of our own minds! Happiness is experienced by mind, not cars or money, so understanding mind is the most important thing.

Date:        29 January 2009 / 7.30pm

Meditation over the Christmas Break

Dear friends,

Just a short note to remind everyone that there won’t be meditation on the next two Wednesday evenings (Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve respectively). Instead, we will have meditation on Tuesday both this week and next week. Same address and will start at 8pm as usual.

Hope to see you,

Kukka and Anthony.

Mulled wine and minced pies!

Dear all,

Minced Pies and Mulled Wine!

Please don’t forget to come to meditation this coming Wednesday evening at 8pm (the 17th). We’ll have our annual minced pies and mulled wine evening – mulled wine served after meditation naturally!

As usual – all are welcome, it’s always free, and people new to Buddhism are very much invited to come.

Best wishes,

DWBHK!

Buddhism in the Modern World

Tommy Boggs, an experienced Buddhist teacher from Denmark, will be visiting Hong Kong to give a talk about Buddhism in the Modern World. In each culture, the teachings of the Buddha find the form that suits them best. One can compare them to a diamond: on a red cloth it shines red, on a blue cloth it looks blue; regardless, the diamond itself remains the same. Without losing their essence, the teachings of the Buddha have adapted to the cultural conditions of different societies and times and are as relevant today as they were 2,500 years ago. Today, in our modern societies, the timeless view of the Diamond Way (skt. Vajrayana) and its methods are more and more appealing to educated and independent people around the world. This talk will explore how we can use these methods in our daily lives.

Date / time: Tuesday 25th November / 8pm

Venue: The Fringe Club (2nd floor, Fringe fotogalerie), 2 Lower Albert Road, Central

Cost: HK$60 / HK$30 for concessions

There will be an opportunity to ask any questions you may have, and take part in a guided meditation.

All are welcome!

Kagyu Run

Run, Kagyu, Run!

To help raise money for the building of a new gompa, or meditation hall, at our Europe Center in Germany (www.europe-center.org), Diamond Way Buddhist centres from all over the world are taking part in the 5th annual Kagyu Run on 21 September 2008.

Friends are invited to run / cycle / swim / walk as many kilometers as possible and are sponsored by other friends from other Diamond Way centres from around the world. The event ends with a meditation that is streamed over the internet, to allow everyone to join (exact time tbc).

The event works like this:

Register:         runners and sponsors register on this website, and are assigned randomly to your international partner.

Runners:        run as many kilometers as you can and want to, every step towards the Europe Center counts.

Sponsors:        transform the kilometers of “their” runner(s) into $$$ and donate the sum for the Europe center.

If you can, please register as both a runner and a sponsor – this way you’ll make two connections to the worldwide sangha – someone, somewhere will be your sponsor, and you have the honour of sponsoring someone else.

We’ve got just under 3 three weeks left to train! Get down the gym! Go on – you know it makes sense… 🙂

Registration and more details here: www.kagyu-run.org

If you’d like to join us, we’ll be running on Hong Kong island, please get in touch.
