Buddhism in the Modern World

Please join us for a weekend course about “Buddhism in the Modern World” with Eckart Dross, a Buddhist teacher from Argentina. The course will include an overview of Diamond Way Buddhism and the important methods it uses for working with mind.

Simply put, Buddha’s teachings enable us to experience lasting happiness. By using suitable meditations, our theoretical knowledge turns into direct experience leading to the goal of Buddha’s teachings – the full development of body, speech and mind.

The teachings of Buddhism have remained a liberating gift to mankind for the last 2,450 years. Non-dogmatic and without any gods or commandments, they have enabled people to benefit both others and themselves. Especially today, with the many independent thinkers and new communication techniques, it has become possible to collect, organize and distribute Buddhist teachings, old as new, in attractive and fresh ways.

In today’s fast paced world, how can we use these timeless methods in our modern, busy lives?

Eckart Dross became Buddhist in 1998 and founded the Diamond Way Centre in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has been instrumental in setting up other centres and retreat places throughout South America. He has been travelling and teaching Buddhism internationally since 2005, giving lectures and courses on Buddhism at Lama Ole Nydahl’s request, throughout South America, Europe, Australia and Asia.

The course will start on Friday 2 September at 7.30pm with a public talk to introduce the course, and will continue on Saturday and Sunday at 10am on both days. Both weekend days will include a meditation session starting at 10am and a further talk with Eckart starting at 2pm.

The talks on Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon will cost HK$80 (HK$50 for concessions) each to attend.

Venue: Diamond Way Buddhist Centre Hong Kong, 2/F, 3-5 Jervois Street, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong

All are welcome to attend and translation into Cantonese will also be available. We look forward to seeing you there!

Weekend Meditation Practice

We’re starting a regular weekend meditation practice session on Saturday at 11am. Each and every week, we will meet together to continue with our personal meditation practice whether it is the 16th Karmapa meditation, Refuge meditation, Ngondro practices, etc.

The idea behind the day is to give each other some support and a friendly push to continue with our own practice. The day is useful for those who want to know more about integrating meditation practice in their daily lives and have the opportunity to meditate with others in a group setting.

All are welcome to attend and it is free to come. If you need instructions on starting a particular meditation practice, we’ll also have time for explanations.

In Buddhism, meditation means “effortlessly remaining in what is.” This state may be brought about by calming and holding the mind, by realizing compassion and wisdom, or by working with the body’s energy channels and meditating on Buddha forms of light and energy. The most effective methods are the constant identification with one’s own potential to be a Buddha and experiencing the richness of every situation in life; both of which are taught in the Diamond Way. When one understand that the seer, what is seen, and the act of seeing are not separate from each other, the goal has been reached.

Hope to see you there!

May Meditation Madness!

Dear friends,

May Meditation Madness!

Since moving to our new centre in Sheung Wan, we’ve been meeting for guided meditation every day at 8pm to practice the 16th Karmapa mediation together.

Keen to keep up our good work to date, we’ll be continuing in the same vein and enjoying another month of Meditation Madness! As usual, we’ll start at 8pm and practice the 16th Karmapa Meditation. All are welcome to join. If you are new to Buddhism, we’d recommend coming along on Wednesday evenings from 7.30pm where one of our regular members will give a short talk to introduce the meditation and explain a little about who we are and what we do.

Look forward to seeing you soon!

Meditation on Buddha’s birthday

Dear friends,

On Tuesday 10th May, there is a public holiday in Hong Kong to celebrate Buddha’s birthday. We’ll be meeting at the centre at 10am for a Meditation Practice Day. It is a great opportunity to go a bit deeper in one’s own meditation practice by spending a bit more time on the cushion, or to get explanations if you want to start dedicating a bit more time to meditation practice. The day will finish with the guided meditation on the 16th Karmapa at 8pm.

Look forward to seeing you soon.

Best wishes!

Please join us for meditation every day at 8pm for the rest of the month – its time for March Meditation Madness!

We will be practising the 16th Karmapa Meditation  – the methods employed in this meditation have been used in Buddhism since the time of the Buddha 2,500 year ago. Focused on fully developing the human potential, the meditation brings about lasting results for those who not only want to learn about their minds, but have a direct experience of it. The meditation will always be preceeded by a short talk from one of the members of the centre – so if you are new to Buddhism, it is an ideal place to start. Our address is:

Unit 3, 2nd Floor,
3-5 Jervois Street,
Sheung Wan,
Hong Kong

* Our centre is conveniently located in a quiet street in the Central / Sheung Wan area, a short walk from either MTR station. There are various bus routes that run up and down either Queen’s Road Central or Des Voeux Road Central, and we are also very close to the tram.

Weekend Meditation Course

Please join us for a weekend meditation course from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 April. We will be joined by a fantastic Buddhist teacher from Austria, Klaus Kaltenbrunner, from Saturday afternoon onwards. Klaus was born in 1952 and took refuge with Lama Ole in 1998. He was asked to teach in 2004. Klaus works as a child neurologist and psychiatrist in his local hospital.

Starting with a public talk “Introduction to Meditation” on the Friday evening with Anthony Hopson, who helps run the Diamond Way Buddhist Centre in Hong Kong, we will have the fantastic opportunity to go deeper into this central topic in Buddhism over a full weekend course.

The schedule for the weekend course is as follows:

– Friday 8 April: Talk – Introduction to Buddhist Meditation, with Anthony (7pm)

– Saturday 9 April:  Meditation practice session (10am) (will include explanations for those who need them)
– Saturday 9 April: Meditation practice session (3pm) (will include explanations for those who need them)
– Saturday 9 April: Talk on Meditation, with Klaus (7pm)

– Sunday 10 April: Meditation practice session (10am) (will include explanations for those who need them)
– Sunday 10 April: Talk on meditation, with Klaus (3pm)

The cost for attending the whole weekend course will be HK$300 / HK$200 for concessions. Individual sessions will cost HK$70 or HK$40 for concessions each.

This will be a fantastic opportunity to explore this central topic in Buddhism, participate in guided meditations and ask any questions you may have. The course is suitable for those new to Buddhism as well as those who have started practicing meditation already.

Look forward to seeing you there!
